EMC and ESC
by Richard Eastman

In looking at this site, it would appear that EMC
(English Mission College, now Al Salaam)and ESC
(English School Cairo) have been conflated. They
were separate entities. I was in Cairo from 1936
to 1944, and attended EMC. As soon as the
submarine danger abated, the US government put us
(my mother Rachel and my sister Doris) on a
Liberty ship bound for America departing Egypt in
January 1945.
I had fond and not so fond memories of EMC, such
as my close friend Valentin Kassessinoff, alas
now deceased, and being caned by the headmaster
when I tried to return my schoolbooks by climbing
in a school window during the school holiday.
I have the school being located on Tuman Bey St.
in Qubbah Palace--obsolete names, of course.
Anyone wishing to touch base with me by email is
welcome.
