Proposed 2nd Reunion of the North American Chapter
by Mohamed Zaki

ESC OLD BOYS & OLD GIRLS ASSOCIATION NORTH AMERICAN CHAPTER 8th NEWSLETTER - May 7, 1999 esc home page Thanks to good-old-fashioned-word-of-mouth-networking, plus our state-of-the-art-internet-website (www.esc-obog.org), our roster has now grown to over 80 Old Boys & Old Girls located in the USA & Canada. We are now about 50 Old Boys and 30 Old Girls who went to the ESC and who, by some act of fate, are now located on this side of the Atlantic. In early March we mailed to each and every one of you a questionaire to gauge your interest in a second reunion, its time & place. With some prodding, about half of you responded, and an overwhelming majority of responses indicated a preference for "the Washington DC area, preferably in October 99" (which is not surprising since the majority of our membership is located on the Eastern Seaboard & Canada). Interestingly enough, Las Vegas/Grand Canyon was runner-up for location, so maybe our third reunion will "Go West" ? (Take heart, our California members !). We wish to thank all of you who responded. And a special thanks to those who voted "any place, any time, we''ll be there !". Therefore, without further ado, we are happy to announce that the second reunion of the North American Chapter will be held on Saturday - Sunday, October 9 -10, 1999, in the Washington DC area. Judging by your responses, we are expecting an attendance of about 25 OB''s & OG''s plus respective spouses/dependants. As you know, October is the popular fall season so hotel accommodations will be difficult. Accordingly, we went ahead and made a tentative "group rate" booking for about 20 rooms at the Quality Hotel Courthouse Plaza in Arlington VA, $89 plus tax per room (2 queen beds/room, parking included), check-in on Friday October 8, check-out on Tuesday October 12 (some may have to leave on Monday October 11, others may wish to extend beyond the 12th). We are also currently working on city tours for Saturday & Sunday which would include, for example, visits to the White House, the Capitol buildings, Arlington Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, etc. Our main event would be a dinner/cruise on the Potomac on Saturday, October 9th. We''ll let you know the cost once we know the number attending. Thus, while we celebrate getting together as ESC alumni, we can also avail ourselves of the cultural and touristic amenities for which Washington DC is renowned. Before we can go any further with the planning for this reunion we must have your input. If you plan to attend please call or email either one of us as soon as you receive this newsletter. We need to hear from you by Tuesday, May 18th so we can firm things up, otherwise we shall have to assume that you cannot attend. Mark your calendar for October 8 - 12, and come help make this 2nd reuniuon a success ! ..... AND PLEASE RESPOND NOW !!!
